Holybro Pixhawk 6X-RT Flight Controller — i.MXRT1176 Dual-Core, Triple IMU Redundancy, 3× CAN-FD, 100Mbps Ethernet, NXP EdgeLock Hardware Secure Element, PX4
The Holybro Pixhawk 6X-RT is Holybro’s most advanced enterprise flight controller, built on the Pixhawk FMUv6X-RT open standard with an NXP i.MXRT1176 dual-core processor (Cortex-M7 @ 1GHz + Cortex-M4 @ 400MHz). It features triple redundant IMUs (BMI088 + ICM-42688-P + ICM-42686-P), dual redundant barometers (BMP390 + BMP388), 3× CAN-FD buses, RMII 100Mbps Ethernet, and an NXP EdgeLock SE051C2 hardware secure element (CC EAL 6+ certified) for secure operator ID storage and cryptographic operations. Modular design via the Pixhawk Bus standard. PX4 firmware pre-installed. Developer edition — PX4 only; ArduPilot not yet supported.
Key Features
- NXP i.MXRT1176 Dual-Core Processor — Cortex-M7 @ 1GHz + Cortex-M4 @ 400MHz; 2MB SRAM, 64MB Octal SPI Flash for high-throughput autonomous mission execution
- Triple Redundant IMUs — BMI088 (Bosch) + ICM-42688-P + ICM-42686-P (InvenSense) on separate buses with independent power control for maximum fault tolerance
- Dual Redundant Barometers — BMP390 + BMP388 on separate buses; automatic failover on sensor failure
- NXP EdgeLock SE051C2 Hardware Secure Element — CC EAL 6+ certified (AVA_VAN.5 to OS level); secure operator ID storage, cryptographic operations, and field-updatable applets
- 3× CAN-FD Buses — High-speed CAN-FD for DroneCAN/UAVCAN peripherals including GPS, ESCs, and sensors
- RMII 100Mbps Ethernet — High-bandwidth mission computer integration via Microchip Ethernet PHY
- Modular Pixhawk Bus Design — Separated IMU, FMU, and base system connected via 100-pin + 50-pin Pixhawk Bus connectors; compatible with Pixhawk Standard Baseboard, Mini Baseboard, and RPi CM4 Baseboard
- IMU Temperature Control — Onboard heating resistors maintain optimal IMU operating temperature for accurate readings in cold-weather and high-altitude conditions
- Vibration Isolation System — Filters high-frequency vibration and reduces noise for accurate sensor readings and stable flight performance
- PX4 Pre-installed — Ships with PX4 firmware; supports NuttX RTOS and Zephyr RTOS
